The 15th congress of the Pan-African Archaeological Association will take place from 10 to 14 September 2018 in Rabat, Morocco.

The general theme validated is:

“Valorization of African Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development”

Cultural heritage in general and archaeological in particular has attracted attention of developers, economic decision-makers, academics and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in recent years, and has become a lever for socio-economic development. The field of archeology and the geology of the Quaternary has experienced considerable development in Africa. Numerous multidisciplinary research and international cooperation programs cover a large part of Africa, crowned by important discoveries, world-renowned in particular and Physical Anthropology and Prehistory.

Thus, Africa has a considerable archaeological heritage, but the most part of it is not valued, and local populations do not benefit.

Through this theme we want to draw attention to the valorization and conservation of this African heritage and to the related scientific research, including the topic of how to put them at the service of a sustainable development.

To what extent can the relevance of the scientific and cultural results of archeology contribute to socio-cultural and economic development?
